Vivek Taneja, of Alexandria, was knocked unconscious during a fight on Friday Feb. 2 around 2 a.m., on the 1100 block of 15th Street NW, DC police said.
Taneja was hospitalized in serious condition and died on Feb. 2. Police are working to identify the suspect, who was captured on surveillance.
NBC Washington says the fight happened outside the restaurant SHŌTŌ. Taneja and the suspect began arguing before a fight broke out, when the IT exec was knocked to the ground and hit his head.
Services are being handled by Jefferson Funeral Chapel.
Taneja's LinkedIn shows he's the co-founder and president of Dynamo Technologies, an IT company based in Vienna. His bio on the company website shows he earned in BA in economics and Interdisciplinary studies from the University of Virginia, and his M.S. in telecommunications from George Mason University.
Taneja earned his D.Eng. in Engineering Management and Systems Engineering from the George Washington University, "where his doctoral research utilized a system dynamics approach to analyze the impact of electronic health care records on the U.S. healthcare system," his bio on the Dynamo website reads.
